5 Stories to Start Your Wednesday

We are excited that tonight we are gathering yet again to kick off our annual Travel Megatrends for the new year. Each year the event has grown and this time around we are pushing 400 attendees. While the open bar has something to do with it, we are pretty sure the ideas that are exchanged are also a big draw. I'll be up onstage alongside founder and CEO Rafat Ali and we hope we'll be lucky enough to see you in the crowd. If not, though, you can follow along with the action (but not the bar) on Facebook Live.

And while it's no live event, I'm also happy this morning about our Q&A with British Airways CEO Alex Cruz. He's frank, insightful, and honest in a way you want all your interview subjects to be. — Jason Clampet, Editor-in-Chief

Perhaps to the chagrin of hotels, the vacation rental category is getting a ton of more exposure.

U.S. Travel Industry Jobs Ended 2016 With Modest Gains and Smaller Growth

Skift Take: As much as we wish 2016 was a thing of the past, we took a look at the U.S. travel jobs growth for last year and found that while it wasn't all bad news -- and many jobs were added -- that growth wasn't as robust as the previous year because of global events and a litany of other factors.
