Is this just like a bad rerun or is something new going on? Travel Tech Editor Sean O'Neill, in his weekly travel startup funding roundup, profiles a couple of companies today, Kimkim and Travello, that are seemingly following business models that many have tried and thrown away in despair.

Kimkim is trying a lead-generation service for travel agents; there have been several ill-fated attempts at this kind of business. Travello, on the other hand, is a social travel business focusing on in-destination bookings. Travello CEO Ryan Hanly said the genre's predecessors were ahead of their time, and this time it's all different. That's possible, but we'll be watching with skepticism.
