Norwegian Cruise Line is redeploying a ship built for China to destinations such as Alaska, and taking a loss for its initially ill-conceived strategy. It's easy to play Monday morning quarterback: It would have been hard to know in advance that China would have a tiff with South Korea, prodding its citizens to cruise elsewhere.
But Norwegian Cruise Line could also be faulted for following the crowd, namely its competitors, to China, where the supply of ships outstripped demand. Sometimes it is much better to think contrarian and to choose your destinations more wisely.
