Google Just Made It Super Easy to Order Food Delivery

The biggest tech companies in the world are making strides to ensure you never leave their apps again — even if you need to order lunch. Just last week, Facebook announced it was integrating food delivery in its app, allowing users to order delivery without actually logging out of Facebook. Now, Google is doing it, too: With an update that allows users to order food delivery directly through Google Maps.

Google Maps for iOS version 4.24.0 allows users to place local delivery orders using a selection of on-demand food delivery services, including Seamless and Grubhub. As Apple Insider notes, the app's Explore feature “surfaces nearby eateries serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, dinner and drinks.”

Users can then refine those restaurants further, choosing from sub-categories like “Where the Locals Eat” or “Vegetarian-Friendly Spots.”

If delivery is available at a particular restaurant, it will show up on that restaurant’s info card, along with a “Order” link. Click the link and the app will ask the user to continue via a third-party delivery app (i.e. Seamless, Grubhub, DoorDash, etc.)

Facebook launched a similar service just last week, which allows users to order food for delivery without ever leaving the Facebook app. The new system went into effect on October 19, and, for now, can only be used on the Facebook pages of restaurants that use food delivery services Delivery.com and Slice.
